Art Exhibition in Rethymno September 2025

Ελληνικά

I’ve been given the opportunity to showcase a small collection of my sculptures, clay relief pictures, and paintings at an art exhibition in Rethymno, Crete.
I’m very happy and grateful to Marie Baudoux, who spontaneously invited me to participate, and I feel truly honoured to be part of it.

Marie Baudoux has developed a unique style, transforming bits and pieces of various textiles—of all kinds and origins—into immersive images. Her work invites you to dive in, move between tradition and innovation, and listen to the stories they tell.

The exhibition will be held at Spiti Politismou, in the old town of Rethymno, very close to the Archaeological Museum. It runs from the 4th to the 20th of September, daily from 15:00 to 20:30, except Sundays.
I’ll be there on the 4th, 5th, 6th, and the 11th, 12th, 13th.

You are warmly welcome to visit and explore!

The next series of ceramic workshops in my little atelier in Stylos are planned for late autumn. Until then, you have the possibility to arrange a private workshop with your friends or family (up to a maximum of 6 participants). Get in touch with me, we will decide together on a date and on a subject, and ready we are to go for a pottery adventure!

In the meantime, you can also take a look at our workshop activities of the last few months in the Gallery.

Enjoy the beauty of summertime!

Have you ever thought of….

Ελληνικά

Have you ever thought of your favorite picture in a three dimensional version?

Building a Relief Picture

In this workshop we transform an idea or an image that we like into a three-dimensional picture. It could be a portrait, a landscape, a plant or animal, a mandala or just anything that you can imagine. There are no limits! After the pieces are fired we will meet again and paint them with acrylics.
Here you can find pictures of some examples.

14/6/2025 Saturday10:00-14:00
28/6/2025 Saturday, 10:00-13:00 painting and finishing the relief.

Have you ever wondered how it is to approach clay in a more intuitive way?

Clay Meditation & Creating your unique Treasure Box

This half day ceramic workshop is for anybody who likes to experience the beauty and magic of the natural material clay. If it’s your first time touching clay or not doesn’t matter – there is something in it for everyone.

The four hours consist of three parts:

  • Experiencing the material clay in a playful way
  • Clay Meditation
  • Creating your own little unique Treasure Box

Your Treasure Box will be fired and glazed with a transparent glaze inside. It will stay in the terracotta colour of the fired clay with a whitish wash.

15/6/2025 Sunday, 10:00-14:00

Or are you attracted to ceramic figurines and always wanted to sculpt one yourself but don’t know how?

Sculpting Figurines

This workshop is devoted to sculpting. After a short study of proportions of the human body and some examples of different kinds of sculptures we shape and model our own figure. This is quite an open field from very realistic to completely abstract.
My intention is to help everyone find an idea, a pose and a way to sculpt a figure that suits his/her abilities and tastes and to support putting it into practice.

The finished sculptures will be dried and fired and will get that typical terracotta colour of the fired clay.

29/6/2025 Sunday, 10:00-14:00

For all workshops:

  • All the necessary materials (clay, coatings, glazes, acrylic paint etc) as well as the firing are provided.
  • No previous knowledge in pottery is necessary.
  • As soon as your objects are ready I will contact you so you can come and pick them up from my atelier.
  • For any questions or registration call me at 697 422 11 51 or write an email to schnyder.barbara@gmail.com.

Ceramic Workshops in May

Ελληνικά

I’m happy to announce two ceramic workshops coming up in May.

On Saturday, the 10th, we will dive into the world of sculpting animals. On Sunday, the 11th, we will spend the day with building all kinds of pots and bowls and decorating them by making imprints with different wood stamps, flowers, plant leaves and any object you can think of leaving a nice pattern.

Each workshop is self-contained.

In detail:

Sculpting Animals – Saturday 10th of May – 10:00 – 14:00

This workshop is devoted to sculpting animals – any kind of animals existing on earth, in dreamland or in our fantasy. This is quite an open field from very realistic to completely abstract.
My intention is to help everyone find an idea, a pose and a way to sculpt an animal figure that suits his/her abilities and tastes and to support putting it into practice.

The finished pieces will be dried and fired and will get that typical terracotta colour of the fired clay.

You can find some pictures of animals that we made in past workshops.

Pots with Imprints – Sunday 11th of May – 10:00 – 17:00

We will have a break for lunch which I will provide.

Before we put the parts (bottom, sides, feet etc.) together we make decorative imprints with stamps or whatever can be used as stamps such as flowers, leaves, textiles, buttons, pen lids, just anything you can think of.

These pots will stay in the terracotta colour of the fired clay and for a more contrasty effect I will treat them after the first firing either with a white or a dark colour (as you prefer) before firing them the second time with transparent glaze on the inside if you wish.

Here you find a variety of pots that we made in past workshops.

  • All the necessary materials as well as the firing, glazing and lunch are provided.
  • No previous knowledge in pottery is necessary.
  • As soon as your objects are ready I will contact you so you can come and pick them up from my atelier.
  • For any questions or registration call me at 697 422 11 51 or email me at schnyder.barbara@gmail.com.

It’s time for a new experience with clay!

Ελληνικά

Let’s give clay a shape! In the next three ceramic workshops we are sculpting and modelling faces and figurines, building pots of different shapes by using the slab construction technique and making all kinds of imprints for an unique decoration. I’m looking forward to a new series of workshops with you together!

22/3/2025  Sculpting Faces
23/3/2025  Pots with Imprints
13/4/2025  Sculpting Figurines

1. Sculpting Faces

22/3/2025 Saturday,   10:00-14:00

The subject of this workshop will be the human face. All levels are welcome. It is amazing how a lump of clay turns step by step into something almost alive….and it doesn’t matter how realistic nose, mouth, eyes are formed. They get their own life and expression anyway and turn into something very personal and unique.

We will use the local red clay and leave the fired pieces in terracotta colour.

Here you can see pieces from past Modelling Faces Workshops.

2. Pots with Imprints

23/3/2025 Sunday, 10:00-17:00  with a break for lunch which I will provide.

Before we put the parts (bottom, sides, feet etc.) together we make decorative imprints with stamps or whatever can be used as stamps such as flowers, leaves, textiles, buttons, pen lids, just anything you can think of.

I hope you had a happy and fulfilling 2024 and left any heavy luggage behind you, so you could start lightly and energized and full of fresh ideas and plans into the new year.

As I start 2025 with different projects which will keep me busy way into March, a new series of ceramic workshops will start shortly after that. I hope you understand, especially those of you who were impatiently waiting for the new program.

Until then have a wonderful time, stay inspired and creative!

I wish you all the best.

Ceramic Workshops in November and December

Ελληνικά

A new series of three self-contained Ceramic Workshops is awaiting you!

Workshop 1: Building a Relief Picture

In this workshop we transform an idea or an image that we like into a three-dimensional picture. It could be a portrait, a landscape, a plant or animal, a mandala or just anything that you can imagine. There are no limits! After the pieces are fired we will meet again and paint them with acrylics.

Workshop 2: Mobile – Art Decor to Hang

We make mobiles or any kind of art decor you can hang from the ceiling, on a wall, in a tree or on your balcony.

On the first day we build decorative pieces of different shapes and sizes out of clay and after the drying and firing process we meet again to decorate the pieces with acrylic paints and assemble them with strings to create a mobile.

We can also combine them with pieces of different materials such as wooden sticks, beads, pendants, amulets or whatever you find suitable.

Here are some examples.

24/11/2024 Sunday, 10:00-17:00 with a break for lunch which I will provide.
8/12/2024 Sunday, 10:00-13:00 painting and putting together the mobile.

Workshop 3: Winter Night Lanterns

We will learn step by step different techniques for building a lantern which can have almost any kind of shape. Once it’s built we can cut out patterns and shapes where the candle light will shine through.

When the lanterns are dried and fired I will treat them with a white or a dark wash (as you prefer) which will leave visible the terracotta colour of the clay underneath. Then they get fired a second time.

Here are some examples.

30/11/2024 Saturday, 10:00-17:00 with a break for lunch which I will provide.

A summer pot pourri of pottery

Ελληνικά

During June and July, the kiln in my atelier was running really hot. Of course a potter’s oven is supposed to get very hot in order to fire the clay properly, but what I mean is that there was not much time in between for the kiln to cool down. Uploading photos of the past workshops and of all the students’ finished pieces made me also realize how busy these two months actually were and how many people spent some time in my atelier experiencing the clay, creating unique and personal pieces, exchanging ideas and opinions and so much more.

We had lots of fun doing all kinds of objects, patterns and designs, the atelier was filled with laughter and fun but also often with absolute silence where you could almost touch the concentration in the air. There was space for everyone and everyone’s creativity. It was very inspiring! Thank you all who were being a part of this. In the gallery below you find some impressions of the workshops and if you like to see the outcomes of all this busy time, visit the gallery of our finished pieces.

The next series of ceramic workshops is planned for November and December. If you like to get a message when the new program is out, subscribe here, if you haven’t done so already.

In the meantime enjoy the beauty of August, take care and see you again in autumn!

Summer Night Lanterns and more…

Ελληνικά

In July you have a choice of two dates for a half-day workshop for making your own ceramic candle lantern to create a soft atmosphere with natural light.

In another half-day workshop we will sculpt figurines. They can be human figures or other kinds as well. You can place yours indoors or maybe it will find a nice home somewhere in your garden, or on your terrace or balcony.

Summer Night Lanterns

Two dates – two separate workshops:

18/07/2024  Thursday  / 10:00-14:00

21/07/2024  Sunday  /  10:00-14:00

We will learn step by step different techniques for building a lantern which can have almost any kind of shape. Once it’s built we can cut out patterns and shapes where the candle light will shine through.

When the lanterns are dried and fired I will treat them with a white or a dark wash (as you prefer) which will leave visible the terracotta colour of the clay underneath. Then they get fired a second time.

Sculpting a Figurine

23/07/2024  Tuesday / 10:00-14:00

This is quite an open field from very realistic figures to completely abstract ones.
My intention is to help everyone find an idea, a pose and a way to sculpt a figure that suits their abilities and tastes and to support putting their idea into practice.

The finished sculptures will be dried and fired, acquiring that typical terracotta colour of the fired clay.

Each workshop is self-contained but of course you can attend more than one.

For all workshops:

  • All the necessary materials as well as the firing and a little snack are provided.
  • No previous knowledge in pottery is necessary.
  • As soon as your objects are ready I will contact you so you can come and pick them up from my atelier.
  • For any questions or registration call me at 697 422 11 51 or email me at schnyder.barbara@gmail.com.

Please note that there won’t be any workshops in August, September and October. So if you’d like to participate in a ceramic workshop this summer, now is the time! 😉

Ready for a new experience with clay?

Ελληνικά

The Touching Clay program for June is out!

In three self-contained Ceramic Workshops you have the possibility to build plant pots in different ways with your own unique style and colourful jars with lids whose variety can be as vast as your phantasy.

1. Plant Pots with Engobe & Scratching

16/6/2024 Sunday,   10:00-16:00  with a break for lunch which I will provide.
22/6/2024 Saturday, 10:00-12:00  painting and scratching the design.

A unique plant pot for your garden, terrace and indoor spaces.

We build round, oval or square pots by using the slab technique. I will show and explain this technique to you step by step. Having done the basic construction, we can put on feet and adjust the rim to give it some more character. On the second class we will paint a layer of engobe on the surface of the pots and scratch a design we like into it. Afterwards the pots get dried, fired, glazed with a transparent glaze and fired a second time.

Find some examples of the finished pieces in the photo gallery here.

2. Colourful Jars with Lids

23/6/2024 Sunday,   10:00-17:00  with break for lunch which I will provide.
29/6/2024 Saturday, 10:00-13:00  painting our pieces before they get fired and glazed.

There are many possibilities of different shapes and colours to design your own unique jar. I will show and explain step by step an easy way for beginners and also more advanced ways. On Sunday we build and form the jars and the lids and on the following Saturday we give our pieces a colourful coating with engobes which have to be put on before the first firing. After the firing I will glaze them with shiny or matt transparent glaze, whatever you decided for each of your pieces, and then fire them a second time.

Get an idea from the photo gallery here.

3. Plant Pots with Stamps

28/6/2024 Friday, 10:00-17:00  with a break for lunch which I will provide.

Here you find a variety of plant pots that we made in past workshops.

For all three workshops:

  • All the necessary materials (clay, engobe, glaze, stamps…) as well as the firing and lunch are provided. For the Plant Pot with Stamps Workshop you can also bring supplementary stamps or things you want to use as stamps.
  • No previous knowledge in pottery is necessary.
  • As soon as your objects are ready I will contact you so you can come and pick them up from my atelier.
  • For any questions or registration call me at 697 422 11 51 or email me at schnyder.barbara@gmail.com.

Have a happy and creative month of June!
